Huh, that's a damn good question. I guess sometimes it's easier or feels preferable to talk like this? With just words? Kinda like a letter that's sent immediately instead of having to wait for it in the post?
We didn't have this kind of technology in 1986, either. We had phones, where you can talk to someone as if they're there in the room with you. But none of the other ways of communicating.
Yeah. A millennium. Quite a fucking difference.
[ eddie ain't doin' no mental math real quick to determine who he knows that might be around that far ahead from who he's speaking to! ]
I'm sure there's some of that going on here, just gotta find it. People can't be having sex nonstop all the time, right? Must do other things like gambling to fill the time.
I can see the value in that. It's easier to put words to paper for some things, only as you've said, it's not immediate with letters. Weeks or months between a communication. A matter of where its sent.
Is this device a phone, then?
I should hope they do other things, but I'll not discard the possibility of the former. Semicolon, parentheses.
[Oh, well, that didn't work as intended, but how does one backspace? It's sent anyway.]
[ awe, well. it took eddie awhile to find the extended punctuation tabs, too. ]
Yeah, it works like a phone. I didn't know how to do much on this thing either when I first got here. There's always people who can help you learn how to use it. Especially helpful if you're responding to anything on the network. Took me a long time to learn that there are privacy settings we can use in our messages.
Oh, yeah. Voice to text transcription. I stumbled through figuring out the letters. But we have like typewriters and shit at home...much bigger keys and letters/numbers.
Yep. Absolutely zero privacy anywhere here. Sometimes they really like to fuck with us. Not every day or all the time, but. Feels bad when it happens. Nothing we can do about it.
['Typewriter' is pretty self explanatory, though he can't picture what it looks like, only that it should be more convenient than a printing press so that anyone might use it easily.]
I suppose it is like setting letters individually. I'll learn.]
[Talking to himself in public to use the function he currently prefers is as awkward as pecking at tiny letters.]
I'm almost afraid to ask how it is they... fuck with us.
Well. They put aphrodisacs into food, drink, sometimes into the air, that make people wanna have sex. My experiences with it have been mostly pretty fine, but it's awkward. That's one of the more literal ways that fuckery is often afoot.

This place could do with more privacy in a number of ways, and I've the suspicion any offered on these devices is illusory.

Lots of learning curves here, I've found.

I knew about the food, and I've tried to be careful, though it seems a pointless precaution if it travels through the air as well.

Ultimate sorts of fuckery, ya know?
But at least now you know. Sorry you gotta deal with that shit right along with the rest of us.
